Well we  knew this was coming before the end of the year....apparently it's coming sooner than we thought.

The newest expansion is set to include book 9!

http://www.lotro.com/news/pressreleases/459-the-lord-of-the-rings-online-siege-of-mirkwood

Very little information so far, but now that the cat is out of the bag I'm sure more information will be forthcoming.

We'll be able to craft legacies!!!

Yea!!!

Ok, the cynical part of me says..."subscriptions are down, so we'll give you customizable NPC's to fight with you!"

Yeah, I'm with you Harun... I'm a bit torn by this expansion.  While craftable legacies sound nice, I'm really not liking the sound of the Skirmishes.  To me it ALMOST sounds like some sort of crossed between a RTS and RPG.  I stink at RTS's Sad

Also... someone please correct me if I'm wrong as it's been a while since I've read the series, but... are we no longer following behind the Fellowship of the Ring?  I don't recall them going into Mirkwood at all.  I thought they went somewhere else after they left Lothlorien... Gondor perhaps?  Or... maybe it was Rohan... I just don't remember them ever going into Mirkwood.

Well I had it all typed, but Kaerri beat me to it Tongue ... so I'll add:

In the game we historically are following the fellowship and cleaning up the mess they leave behind- this time the mess is helping the Lothlorien Elves fend off, and ultimately destroy, Dol Guldor, the Ringwraith's HQ.

I am really looking forward to this expansion (and level 65).

Mirkwood!  This is a yay for me.  I *want* to explore all of Middle Earth that they make available to us.  Besides, Bilbo and Co. were there and that's where Legolas is from.

Thal, I didn't get the feeling there was anything RTS (Real Time Shooter) related in this; it sounds to me like they're introducing henchmen (i.e. Guild Wars style!  Rawr!) in some spots, and that, to me, is a Very Good Thing.

Mount overhaul?  New Wild Goat?!  Rawr!

All they need now is The One Pie To Rule Them All. . .

Honor and fun,
Dann

Ohhh henchmen!  Yeah that makes a lot more sense lol.  I was like.... RTS in an RPG!? Gaah no!  I have no problem with henchmen lol, one of my favorite Archetypes in City of Villains is the Mastermind (their whole build relies on the use of henchmen) so I could definitely get into that.

Thanks for clearing that up Dann!

And thanks Kaerri and Sandy for clearing the rest of the info up.  Looks like I'm behind on my LoTRO lore Tongue

This is rather wierd, when you look at the map Tolkien made of this place, Dol Guldur is at the bottom part of Mirkwood... unless this is just a part of Mirkwood. I was under the impression that Bilbo's trip brought him to the northern part of Mirkwood. So i doubt that we will see Legolas's city either.

Correct, we are only getting a very small part of the southwestern portion of Mirkwood. Will be interesting to see if Volume 3 takes us North, East or South. My guess is North, to try and capitalize on the upcoming Hobbit movies.
